What subject do you teach?

I teach subjects related to the construction industry and the built environment. They range from Design and Sustainable Construction, through to Computer Aided Design, and the use of digital technology in construction.

What do you enjoy most about teaching DEC?

Witnessing the look of pride in a learner’s face, once they have grasped a concept and completed a task successfully.

What’s a highlight in your career? What have you done that you are most proud of?

The highlight of my teaching career has been witnessing the graduation of my students from university. This was all the more special, as most of the students had come from challenging backgrounds, and were returning to education after having left it at an early age.

What careers do your students end up in?

Various fields in the building industry. Many of those learners are now in their chosen specialist profession, working in fields such as surveying, project management, civil engineering, architecture, planning, CAD, landscape design, quantity surveying and facilities management.

If you had any advice to give to a school-leaver or someone who feels stuck, what would it be?

Find your passion, do your best to pursue it and do your upmost to succeed in it. The rewards will far outweigh the hard work.
